First artists draw the outline of traditional figures and patterns
using cornmeal and gelatin mixed paste, after which is sun dried.
Next the workers stretch the dried fabric which opens the weave so
colors can be absorbed.
Second, natural pigment
paints are selected and mixed to arrive at the desired colors.
The paints are used by artists to color traditional figures to now
give them life and feeling after which is sun dried.
Batik cloth is now washed and excess paint scraped off -
and then washed again, after which is sun dried.
Batiks are examined by artists to be sure that colors are correct
and are dried into the fabric according to standards.
Electric ovens are used to bake the colors into the fabric at a very
high temperature further bonding the paint into the fabric.
Expert seamstresses cut and sew the finished Batik cloth to the
design requirements requested. Artists assist to ensure that
traditional art features are not lost.
